Our Journey to This Place of Love

The 3 filmmakersI'm not sure how it happened, one minute I was content with my world of video production, the next I was making a movie! (Lucy)

I didn't set out to start a production company but then I didn't start out to write a screenplay either, it just happened. (Susan)

It was the morning after running my first half marathon. I was sitting on my porch, drinking tea and icing my left knee when I got a call from Sue. (Michele)

As a board member for Women In Film, I was glad to support Susan in her efforts and so didn't think much of it when I offered to read her screenplay. I liked the characters, they were interesting and well developed, and I loved the dialogue. (Lucy)

I started seeing pictures and wondered what it was. Wonder is a curious thing, and like Alice in the looking glass, I fell into a whole new world and life hasn't been the same since. It took me two weeks to realize that what I was seeing was a script. (Susan)

I think her exact words were, "So, what do you think, should we do this thing?" This "thing" being her first screenplay! And I said yes, let's do it, not knowing what we were getting ourselves into! We had talked about doing it before, but it was not until that morning that I knew I would do it. (Michele)

Susan needed help. She was new to all the elements of making a film and so found someone who would help her produce it. She called to see if I would sit in on the initial production meeting. (Lucy)

As a writer, I had never considered doing a script. Oh, maybe way back I had thought of doing a play, but that was so long ago. And these pictures were moving, moving pictures. Still, it didn't sink in. (Susan)

I knew it because I had run that race the day before. The week before the race, I had injured my knee and even as I waited for my event to come up, I wasn't sure if my knee would make it. (Michele)

I guess that meeting is the beginning of the end of the story. Susan's producer didn't work out and I agreed to help her make the movie. As I said, I'm not sure how it all happened. I know I never allowed myself to consider the enormity of the undertaking, it was too overwhelming. (Lucy)

That was the end of January while I was studying the gospel of John. A few months later, I was learning my new craft at the home of a screenwriter with twenty years of production experience who had moved to Boulder from L.A. and was teaching at Naropa, our local Buddhist Graduate School. (Susan)

We started jogging up the first part of the course, a hill that went straight up for about two miles. The run was effortless and I knew then that I could do the race. Running that race was one of the most joyful experiences I've ever had. I was carried through it in a complete state of grace. (Michele)

But suddenly, I was in the throes of making a movie, and a wild ride it is to do so. I hope people listen to the message and enjoy the wonderful audio visual journey we've created. (Lucy)

I looked around and it dawned on me, this script is a screenplay! I was writing a screenplay for a moving picture, a film, a feature film. I had been listening to my heart and my head had just caught up! (Susan)

That's why when Sue called that morning I knew. I knew I would do it and that I would be carried through by grace. (Michele)
